Historique !

Gentlemen,

Match report for last nights game at ISCI (from a goal keepers distant perspective)

Result Vikings: 0 : Xpats 1
Scorer: Jean Pierre
Xpats MOM : Jean Pierre

Team: Gary (goalkeeper), Sebastian, Gregoire, David Nesbit, Michael, Iwan, Matthew, Carlo, Roberto, Jean Pierre, Cedric, Ivan, Yaccine, Begin, Carlos, Marco

After a dream 25 minute journey from Rasuna Said we arrived to find that ISCI had not registered Viking’s booking of the pitch. Luckily the rugby players who should have been training did not show so the game was on. We had a very full turn out with 16 players (apologies to those who did not get much of a game) but unfortunately no Bambang so I had another attempt at keeping goal. Right from the kick off it was evident from the Vikings play that we would have a good chance of winning. But as usual although Xpats had a great deal of possession we were not able to convert the chances generated. That could also be said for the Vikings who appeared to be lacking any creative midfield players and produced very few incisive through balls to their lumbering centre forward. In fact apart from one save by the post and a ball spilled to the feet of a Vikings forward, I saw very little action. A major difference from previous games was a stronger more organised back four and more determined defensive play in the our midfield. In the second half, good work by Carlos, Yaccine and Marco up front resulted in several Xpat corners. Eventually from one of these Jean Pierre (please confirm) headed in of the post/bar? Probably due to being in new territory – the lead – we had quite a few panicky moments after that, most notably when I dropped the ball at the blind Viking players feet. In the end Vikings could not produce anything but screaming and hacking and we finally achieved our first victory of the season. One point to add is that Sebastian believes that our clean sheet might be the first ever by Xpats in the JIFL. A good reflection on last nights performance.

I have learnt from the DOIT captain today that they had major problems with violent play in their match with the Vikings. Mick said the major culprit was their number 7 – was that the same player causing most of the problems last night? Whilst the referee should have dealt with the matter more firmly the responsibility should also lie with the Vikings team Captain to deal with the matter. I would not let a person behaving like him play for us. For those of you who are nursing with sore ankles today, I will register our concern about the matter to the league.
